The green evocator Arcadia

Colour communicates and expresses moods. It is a key variable that designers take into account when presenting their collections.  There is nothing fortuitous. The more radiant the colour, the more expressive capacity it transmits.  And it is already known that in spring there is a desire to express oneself with colour, after a season of neutral, dark and muted tones, traditionally linked with winter.

Living with sorbet colors, another range of tonalities emerges that are positioned right at the other extreme.  They are bright colours, which radiate energy, optimism and confidence driving a new vitality towards fashion trends. In this more daring chromatic range you can find a colour inspired by the most fantastic natural landscapes:  Arcadia .

Make no mistake, green has never been an easy colour to wear.  On the catwalk it dazzles for its freshness and spontaneity, however it is not one of the habitual preferences in consumption.  There is a certain “curse” around this colour that only yellow equals.  Something different happens in decoration, where it is a habitual tone because it revitalizes the neutral spaces and enhances the natural textures and the rustic finishes.  It is a tone that is used in textiles, upholstery, auxiliary furniture and sometimes on a wall.

Arcadia is a different green, highly recognizable visually and with a complex spirit. According to Pantone this tonality “implies the retro and at the same time the modern”. The international authority of colour assures us that “ it is a fresher and cleaner version of the green that, with its blue background nuance, takes us to a new direction for this season”.

This striking variation of turquoise is inspired by the crystalline waters of the tropical oceans and reminds us of purity, nature and fun. The colour Arcadia is above all casual, halfway between the evocative and the transgressive.  Obviously, there is no luxury company that has made an integral commitment to this shade, but it has appeared in fair measure in the collections of Tibi , Sportmax or Ulla Johnson in its most sporty version, in unstructured silhouettes and loose garments of synthetic fabrics . Or showing off its more sophisticated side through steamy, navy- inspired dresses like Elie Saab or through capes and accessories in leather seen in Valentino.

It is usual to see this colour in Gucci , “the green dog” of fashion. In the next autumn-winter season 2018 there are Arcadia brushstrokes in eighties aesthetic dresses with volumes on the shoulders and a blazer with bright fabrics. What is more interesting is that Alessandro Michele  used it to contextualize his latest parade, which was more eccentric than usual, a symbol that in this case the creative director of the popular Italian company  wanted to use to highlight the youthful and imaginative side of his next collection.

Also discover in Gratacós the fabrics that are dyed in Arcadia or in most similar tones. You will surely give green a new opportunity.  It is well worthwhile….

The triumph of sorbet colours

Fashion is paying homage to the sweetness of the softest tones in the chromatic spectrum. Pastel colours are the kings of a season, which is tinged in pale tones that give it a certain romantic and boyish look, with mixtures that include light blues, water green, pale rose, baby blue, lavender and the palest of greys. The collections of Michael Kors, Tom Ford, Emporio Armani, Giambattista Valli, Victoria Beckham and even Chanel, have been impregnated with this colour palette that is presented in complementary blocks within the same look and that without any doubt express the freedom to experiment with colours, soft textures and gradually lightening fabrics. They are tones that when well combined, soften traits and favour tanned skin.

Let’s look at some of the colours most in fashion this Spring-Summer 2018 according to Pantone.

Lavender Pink

This pink shade with bluish reminiscences is taking over from the Millennial Pink that so much triumphed last season – and that continues to mark the spirit of a generation-. It is a lavender pink colour, very fine and delicate, that gives off calm and tranquility. Michael Kors, Kenzo or Tom Ford have opted for this tone in Spring.

Almost Mauve

Another seductive pink from the soft palette. Almost Mauve is a very soft, almost mauve shade, which seems almost white, an ephemeral and delicate colour like a rose petal that lends a very subtle tone to the chromatic creation. Some designs by Rachel Zoe, Giambatista Valli and Tom Ford go for this most nostalgic of hues.

Flowering Dahlia

Orange is present in its most subdued version: peach, a warm tone that intermingles with the pink and whose reference is the flowering dahlia. It is a discreet, but attractive colour that is also a hit in the make-up industry. Rachel Zoe and Paul Smith have opted for it wihout hesitation.

Little Boy Blue

Baby blue is back once again for the warmer months. This inspiring colour of the brightest of skies reminds us of innocence and purity, transmitting tranquility and comfort. This calm tone finds its best allies in lavenders and quiet greens. Versace and Ralph Lauren have featured it on the catwalks.

In our online website, as well as in the Gratacós shope you will also find the new selection of pastel fabrics, so that you can create your softest chromatic blocks. Choose fabrics without too many textures and dare to experiment.

Palomo Spain conquers Paris

Palomo Spain has hit the heights and is heading for success. In two years the company of the Cordoba Designer Alejandro Gómez Palomo (Posadas, 1992) has passed from anonymity to be on everyone’s lipse. And the critics predict him a good future in the fickle fashion industry. He is not lacking in merit. The key to his success has been to revolutionize the masculine wardrobe with clothes that boast transgression, creativity and colour without limits: provocation as a flag. Palomo Spain dresses men in traditionally feminine articles of clothing creating a peculiar eighties universe with an Almodovan aesthetic. His creations are fresh and innovative, with garments that are equipped with all luxury of details and silhouettes that blur gender barriers.

The firm not only designs for men in its more feminine offerings. Palomo Spain takes a step further. Artists such as Miley Cyrus and Rossy de Palma have exhibited his creations on the red carpet. In fact, the fame of this designer grew exponentially when Beyonce chose a gown by the Spanish company for the public presentation of her twins last July. In November Rita Ora appeared in a bathrobe by Palomo Spain at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

After having gone through several fashion weeks, such as that of New York, Alejandro Palomo’s company was chosen to open Paris Male Fashion Week, one of the most important events in the sector, held in mid-January in the French capital.

The collection which he presented for next autumn-winter 2018 / 2019, is entitled ‘The Hunting’ and is inspired by the aesthetics of hunting, combining the more masculine English essence with the spirit of the South, much more folky and ornate, full of colour and prints that are distinctive features of the Cordoba brand. In the designs there is no shortage of furs, tweed, tartan, velvet or wool in classic cuts of the Montería, such as full skirts, corsets, capes and coats. It is an offering of green, persimmon, red and orange tones full of details, as are the line of accessories by Tolentino of Seville that accompanied the winter collection: traditional hats, felt forras… that give the finishing touch to the glamorous hunting looks.

In February, Alejandro Palomo will also have his spot on public television, participating in the new talent show by Spanish Television, Master Seamsters, a fashion programme that displays the art of the designer, emphasizing everything that is behind the fashion media spotlights. It is a contest in which the young designer will act as jury and mentor along with veteran designer Lorenzo Caprile and the Valencian María Escoté.

Gratacós support the talent of Palomo Spain and wish him many more successes.

Chanel’s dazzling embroidered sequin fabric

Our fabrics take different forms in singular creations that are a sample of the know-how of each artist of the needle. Sometimes they become handicrafts by private individuals, local or national designers, also hallowed companies that symbolize luxury and elegance.

This time Chanel used one of our embroidered fabrics of gold sequins to shape a draped mididress with a rigid structure and dizzy cleavage that was part of the ‘Paris Cosmopolite’ collection of Métiers d’Art presented in December at the Hotel Ritz in the French capital. The Prefall 2017 creation reverts to the most classic style, but with a modern touch, in an exercise to bring out the detailed work of master craftsmen in a family environment for the maison, friends of the company and its founder. “The Ritz Hotel is my house,” Gabrielle used to say. Indeed, Coco Chanel herself lived (and died in 1971) in this luminous space, between whites and golds and exotic furniture.

In this luxury home Karl Lagerfeld opted for reverting to the essential features of the maisonin a creation inspired by lunches such as those taken by Gabrielle in the last century and by her dress codes with the emphasis on sophistication. An ideal occasion to show suits in tweed – her emblematic fabric – elaborate dresses with embossed textures, skirts below the knee, revisited levitas, details in gem-stones and a great spectrum of metallic shades that add a glamorous touch to what is on offer from Chanel this autumn.

You will find similar fabrics with gold paillettes and metallized embroidery on our website and you will be thrilled with the results.

Satin

This season, satin is everywhere and is becoming suitable for all occasions, in addition to evening wear night and festive events.  This fabric that is characterized by elegant exterior sheen and good consistency has appeared in the Spring-Summer 2017 collections in multiple versions.  Let’s review the essential garments so you can be inspired…

1. ‘Sleep Dress’

Draper dresses continue in popularity and large firms are reluctant to abandon this garment that in a few years has made the jump from bed to the street.  Thus this season they are no longer worn tight to the body and collections are going for more vaporous and loose models that enhance movement.  The most favourable cut for this type of dress is below the knee with a length that varies until reaching the ankle with asymmetric cuts or minimalist style. These satin garments are fully versatile and support both heels and sneakers.  On the catwalk they have appeared in satin lingerie brands like Narciso Rodríguez, Rag & Bone, Balmain, Prabal Gurung, among others in neutral or metallic shades.

2. Blouse

The satin blouse is a classic of the wardrobe.  The right clothing and fabric never go out of style and this one stands out for its extreme versatility, always providing an extra sophistication: it goes equally well at work, for a meeting or social event or for an informal encounter when combined with jeans.  This season it is being worn with V-neck, buttons or with puffed sleeves.

3. Evening Dressing-Gown

It is the trend of the moment and a continuation of fashion lingerie imposed on the latest collections. This garment associated with luxury, eccentricity and dandyism is expanding horizons to conquer new audiences in more urban environments, positioning itself as a perfect alternative for casual wear.  In summer prints conquer this satin garment : graphic motifs, stripes and oriental style flowers are the fashion.  The evening dressing-gown works very well with smooth garments such as tops with straps or crop tops combined with shorts or slacks.  On the catwalk, brands like Lanvin, Dries Van Noten, Gucci, Emporio Armani and Alberta Ferretti have opted for this centrepiece of the season.

In our shop we offer you satin fabrics of different shades and prints which allow you to create your favourite garment to your liking.  Visit us and we will advise you!

Tulle embroidered with flowers

You know that it is spring when you begin to see colour in the form of floral prints in all their versions either in the street or on the catwalk. Embroidery, appliqués, petals in 3D … flowers decorate each of the fabrics with their natural beauty, becoming an imperishable trend that is renewed each season with surprising results.

In May, the month of flowers, we want to familiarise people with the outstanding look of this beautiful dress by Santos Costura made with one of our fabrics. It is a long dress with bold transparencies made from tulle embroidered with different flowers meticulously trimmed in pink, yellow, blue and green tones strategically placed in the dress and which together form a lush floral garden.

This feminine model by Santos López is part of the Atelier Couture 2018 collection and is conceived of as a party dress which gracefully accompanies the bridal gowns of this Catalan designer, who perfectly represents the values of exclusivity, personalized service and craftsmanship with entirely local production. This philosophy and know-how that we appreciate also proves seductive for his clients, among them renowned Spanish film actresses who have no hesitation in choosing a model by Santos Costura to step on the red carpet. For example, foremost among the most recent is the actress Nerea Barros, who wore the “spring dress in embroidered tulle” at the 2017 Malaga Festival .

This tulle embroidered with flowers and sequin motifs that so once seduced Santos López is still available in our store awaiting new forms of embellishment. Below we list some details for you, although it would be preferable for you to actually come and see it, touch and feel the fabric and appreciate it as much as we do – or indeed as Santos Costura does.

The most evocative tulle

Tejido Tul - Gratacós

The season of celebrations is coming, a time for big events with family, friends or with your partner. The classic time for: weddings, baptisms and communions. Now is the time to look for the most sophisticated fabrics or experiment with tailored suits to obtain that result that will rise to the occasion.

In spring, the catwalks decline towards tulle, that light and fragile fabric with open structure, in form of a net, so evocative. This lightweight semitransparent fabric is present in the most sophisticated dresses, voluminous skirts, pleated garments and romantic spirit blouses wrapping the body with impact results that enhance the feminine appeal. We analyze some day and night proposals from the large design firms.

Day

White, the palette of raw and ‘nudes’, pastels like dusty pink, baby blue, pearl grey, green ‘mint’ or violet … take centre stage with bare shoulder midi dresses and floaty skirts. Several layers of tulle create sensual transparencies where the skin can be seen without showing it, covering the strategic areas of the female silhouette. We especially like Christian Dior Couture, Del Pozo or Hermès.

Black, navy blue and metallic shades – gold, silver and copper can be seen in evening looks with tighter and more transparent full length tulle dresses. These tulle creations are often accompanied by several inlaid rhinestones and sequins to give them a shiny look or floral embroidery that cover the garments with their beautiful leaves, petals and corollas. Valentino, Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera have opted for tulle made garments that ooze sensuality, ideal for evening events.
